Police footage has been released of the September 4th incident that shows a 13-year-old Utah boy with autism being shot by police after his mother called for help getting him hospital mental-health treatment.
The footage shows the officers running down an alley after arriving at the boy's home, chasing the boy down. An officer is heard yelling at him to get onto the ground and show his hands. Several shots are then heard being fired. The boy collapses and is heard saying, âI donât feel good. I donât feel good.â
He survived the incident but suffered broken bones and pierced organs, the familyâs attorney has said.
The boys mother, Golda Barton, detailed to the police that her son had a gun and had threatened to shoot her male coworker and break windows in the house, but said she thought it was a BB gun or pellet gun. There were no indications he was armed.
Barton wanted him to be hospitalized for help with his mental health issues.
Officers said they would have to proceed as though the boy did have access to a real gun. Barton told officers the boy was âtriggeredâ by seeing police.
